Pearl is the softest light on the Silk Road, like ripples on the Crescent Spring under the night sky; agate is the warm hue of Gobi pebbles polished by wind and sand for millennia, like the last warmth of the earth at dusk; lapis lazuli is the blue that set out from Afghanistan three thousand years ago, crossing deserts and snowy mountains, sharing the same celestial hue as the Dunhuang murals; yak bone slices carry the mark of highland herders—rough and earthy, holding the breath of the grassland.
