Fire is not only combustion and heat—it can also be the warmth that light casts upon objects, the lingering heat of stones cooled after being wrapped in magma, and the luster of pearls slowly infused by body temperature within the shell.
The natural stones are the marks left by fire deep in the earth—uncarved, bearing their original textures and warmth, like ores taken directly from molten rock, still carrying the heat from beneath; the jade is the trace left by fire in the stone—the result of light and heat slowly soaking into the material over long geological movements, warm and substantial, like a piece of jade that has been warmed by time itself; the freshwater pearls are the marks left by fire in softness—the product of water and temperature working together, like a fruit warmed by flame, transitioning from hardness to gentleness, from roughness to roundedness.
