Thirteen materials, thirteen memories of the Silk Road: the layered splendor of the intangible cultural heritage lacquer beads, like the lights of Chang'an; the ancient luster of rare vintage glass carried from the Western Regions; the depth of amethyst, the warmth of yellow agate, the natural mineral mark on the ocean stone—like footprints left by desert travelers; the gentle smoothness of Gedi yellow ceramic, the unique single-side sealed craftsmanship of the large-hole vintage glass, the wind-eroded patterns of Gobi banded agate, the marks of time on weathered banded agate, the history sedimented in Loulan glass like grains of sand, the flowing soft light of freeform moonstone, the blue of turquoise, and the translucency of yellow chalcedony.
